I’m Obasanjo’s Oldest Child, We Are More Than Friends; I’ll Be 60 Next Year And He Will Be 90 —Iyabo Obasanjo
Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has dismissed speculation about a possible rift between her and her father, describing their relationship as a close bond that has grown beyond the traditional father-daughter connection.
Iyabo made this known during an interview with TVC, where she spoke about her relationship with the former president and addressed rumours suggesting that the two were experiencing disagreements.
The former Ogun State senator explained that their relationship had evolved over the years, with friendship becoming an important part of their connection. However, she stressed that the bond they share remains deeply rooted in their family ties and mutual understanding.
Iyabo also highlighted their upcoming birthdays, revealing that she would turn 60 next year, while her father would celebrate his 90th birthday in the same year.
According to her, their relationship has reached a stage where they interact more like friends while maintaining the special connection between a father and his daughter.
Speaking during the interview, she said, “I am the oldest child, I don’t even know how to describe our relationship, we are more than friends now. I will be 60 next year and he will be 90 next year. At this age I don’t need a lot of fathering, we are more like friends but friends with a deep connection”.
Her remarks suggest that she considers their relationship strong despite public speculation about possible tension between them. She explained that her current stage of life has influenced the way she relates to her father, as she no longer requires the same level of guidance she needed when she was younger.
