Abuja Child Tr@fficking Suspect Admits Collecting ₦250,000 Per Child, Reveals How She Returned To Operation After Prison

A woman arrested over an alleged child tr@fficking operation in Abuja has admitted receiving ₦250,000 for every child she br%ught, claiming she was told the payment was compensation.

The suspect made the disclosure while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, also admitting that she returned to the alleged operation after being arrested and imprisoned over a previous incident.

Explaining why she went back, she claimed she was persuaded that the arrangement was meant to help children found roaming the streets by providing shelter and education.

According to her, the woman who contacted her claimed to have government approval and facilities to educate children without assistance.

The interviewer reminded her that she had previously identified a woman known as Madam Nkechi as the person who introduced her to the operation. She clarified that she was initially the one who introduced the woman, but said the woman later contacted her and encouraged her to return.

Asked how much she received per child, she replied, “She gave me 250,000 naira.”

When confronted with an earlier claim involving ₦1.5 million, she explained that the money was meant to be shared among several people, including her contact. She maintained that she was told it was compensation but could not explain what it was compensating her for.

Asked how she would feel if someone received money for taking her own child, the suspect acknowledged that she was also a mother.

She further disclosed that she was arrested last year after taking a child. According to her, the case went to court several times, but the complainant failed to appear. She was eventually allowed to go home after the child was recovered.

“That was the first assignment she gave me,” she said.

Some suspects reportedly alleged that a woman known as Madam Nkechi recruited them, promising payments for bringing children described as orphans or street children. Others claimed they met the recruiter at a church in Lugbe, Abuja.
