Tragedy in Ihiala, Anambra State, as Two Brothers Allegedly Clash Over Inherited Ukwu Ube Tree
A family dispute over an inherited Ukwu Ube, has reportedly turned tragic in Umuakpa, Umudara, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to reports, two brothers, Nnamdi Igbanu and Eugene Igbanu, had been given portions of land by their kinsmen, with an Ube tree serving as the boundary. Their kindred reportedly instructed both brothers to jointly own the tree.
However, trouble allegedly started on November 2 when Eugene decided to cut branches of the tree to make firewood, which he intended to sell after drying. Nnamdi and his wife reportedly confronted him, insisting that since the tree belonged to both of them, the firewood should also be shared.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Nnamdi and his wife allegedly used pieces of firewood to assault Eugene, leading to his death.
When villagers received news of the incident, they reportedly rushed to the scene and found Eugene’s lifeless body. Nnamdi and his wife were said to have fled before the villagers arrived.
Angered by what had happened, some villagers reportedly descended on Nnamdi’s house and destroyed it.
As of the time of this report, there is no confirmed information on whether Nnamdi and his wife have been arrested.
What a tragic situation! Imagine a family dispute over an Ube tree and firewood allegedly ending in the loss of a human life.
No piece of land, tree or family inheritance is worth taking another person’s life.
