Arizona woman pleads guilty to poisoning husband’s coffee with bleach

An Arizona woman admitted to adding poison to her husband’s coffee as part of a plea deal. Melody Felicano Johnson, initially charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to adding harmful substances to food or drink.

She faces a maximum of 2 years in prison for each count. Johnson’s husband suspected she wanted to kill him for insurance money. He noticed a strange taste in his coffee and discovered high chlorine levels.

Hidden cameras caught Johnson pouring bleach into a container and then into the coffee maker. He waited to report until they returned to base. Johnson, facing divorce, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The defendant’s husband, Roby Johnson, told investigators he “believes she was trying to kill him to collect death benefits,”
