The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old Quranic teacher, Abubakar Talba, for allegedly abducting two Almajiri boys from Katsina and sexually assaulting one of them.
According to SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the police spokesperson, the suspect lured the boys under the guise of helping them start a business but instead abused one of them.
Talba, who is from Hausari Dandal in Borno State, blamed his actions on the devil.
The police responded to a community complaint about the suspect’s mistreatment of the boys while pretending to run a Quranic school.
Detectives from the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly arrested him.
During interrogation, Talba confessed that he met one of the boys, 12-year-old Masaud Barau from Niger Republic, at a Quranic school in Kano.
He lured him to Daura with promises of helping him start a business. There, he encountered the second victim, 13-year-old Ibrahim Jabiru from Katsina, who was also promised capital to start selling items. Talba then took the boys to various locations, where he began abusing one of them.
The police stated that Talba will be charged to court once the investigation is completed and urged the public to help locate the victims’ parents or guardians.
