In a televised press conference held in Vancouver, he stressed the importance of supporting renters, particularly young Canadians who spend a significant portion of their income on rent.

The Liberal government has been struggling with a severe housing shortage that is worsened by high-interest rates, soaring property prices, slow housing development, and a record influx of immigrants.

The aim is to protect tenants from unjustified rent hikes and unscrupulous landlords.

Additionally, measures will be put in place to recognize on-time rent payments as a positive factor when renters apply for their first mortgage.
