Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has rewarded Jeremiah Obaji with N10 million after he trekked 633 kilometers from Lagos to Abakaliki
Obaji, a 37-year-old businessman, began the journey on August 22 to show appreciation for the governor’s efforts in restoring peace to the crisis-hit Effium/Ezza-Effium community in Ohaukwu LGA, where violent clashes have persisted since 2021.

The trek lasted 17 days, with Obaji traveling by day and resting in villages at night, armed with just two T-shirts and one pair of shoes. He arrived in Abakaliki on Sunday morning to a jubilant crowd before meeting the governor.
Chief of Staff Emmanuel Echiegu received him on behalf of Governor Nwifuru, who praised Obaji’s courage and dedication before announcing the N10 million reward.
Explaining his motivation, Obaji said: “My community was in a serious crisis. Many lives were lost, and properties were destroyed. I trekked to Abakaliki to thank Governor Nwifuru for restoring peace.”
His media aide, Wisdom Nwedene, added that the warm reception Obaji received reflected how much Ebonyians value peace and the governor’s leadership.
