BREAKING NEWS: Edo Government Bans Nursery & Primary Graduation Parties, Introduces Skills Certificate for JSS Students, and Textbook Reuse Policy

The Edo State Ministry of Education has announced sweeping reforms to enhance quality and consistency in schools, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session.

Key highlights include:

1. Textbook Reuse Policy – Approved textbooks will remain valid for a minimum of four years, allowing younger siblings to reuse books purchased by older ones.

2. Graduation Guidelines – Graduation ceremonies are limited to Basic Education (JSS 3) and Senior Secondary 3. Nursery, kindergarten, and Primary 6 pupils will no longer hold graduation parties. Lavish proms are banned; only modest celebrations are permitted.

3. Mandatory Skills Training – All JSS 3 students must complete entrepreneurship skills training. Graduates will now receive two certificates: the BECE and a Skills Acquisition Certificate.

The government says these measures will raise disciplined, skilled, and future-ready students.

Impressive if it’s executed and not just on their lips.
