A police officer accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command in Ogudu, Lagos, has been identified by social media users as Owolabi Akinlolu, a 56-year-old Superintendent of Police (SUPOL).
The Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, previously stated that the accused officer had initially fled but later turned himself in for questioning on Saturday. Hundeyin denied allegations that the police were protecting the suspect.
A social media user, @iruefiNG, shared the alleged identity and photo of the accused, stating: “This is the face of the rapist. His name is OWOLABI AKINLOLU, a Superintendent of Police (SUPOL). He is 56 y/o. The corrupt Nigeria police will never show his face, they’ll try to protect him but it’s our job to make sure this idiot is popular and pays for this despicable act”.

Hundeyin has assured the public that the case is not being ignored. He said that Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered the Gender Unit of the command to investigate the matter immediately.
