In a sermon that sparked discussion both within his congregation and online, Nigerian pastor U.O Miracle shared his views on the significance of paying tithes in the Christian faith.
Pastor Miracle told his church members that while not paying tithes would not stop them from entering heaven, it would impact their status in heaven and their wealth on earth.
He assured non-tithers they could still reach heaven, but warned their spiritual journey would be marked by poverty and discomfort.
Drawing from the biblical story of Lazarus, the poor man who went to heaven, Pastor Miracle explained that although Lazarus reached the afterlife, he did so “with his dirty body” and without privilege.
“If you don’t pay your tithe, you will go to heaven but in a Lazarus style. You’ll be very poor in this world but you will go to heaven. If you’re a tither, you will go in Abraham’s pattern. Lazarus went to heaven as a poor man with his body already eaten by worms, and had sore on his body,” he stated.
