Former President Barack Obama has ruled out taking on any formal position in President-elect Joe Bidenβs administration — quipping that wife Michelle would leave him.
βI will help him in any ways that I can. But now, you know, Iβm not planning to suddenly work on the White House staff or something,β Obama told anchor Gayle King in an interviewΒ on βCBS This Morningβ
King responded, saying, βNo cabinet position for you, Mr. President?β
βThere are probably some things I would not be doing, βcause Michelle would leave me. Sheβd be like, βWhat? Youβre doinβ what?’β Obama joked.
The former president said that heβs confident that Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will take office, despite President Trump still refusing to concedeΒ the race.
He insisted that thereβs βno legal basisβ to Trumpβs allegations of election fraud — to which King pointed out that the president is βgetting support from members of the Republican Party, who are not challenging him.β
βAnd that has been disappointing. But itβs been sort of par for the course during these four years,β Obama said.
βThey obviously didnβt think there was any fraud going on, βcause they didnβt say anything for the first two days.β
In the wide-ranging interview to promote his forthcoming memoir βA Promised Land,β Obama was asked to respond to Trumpβs claim that he has βdone more for the African American community than any president since Abraham Lincoln,β and whether he considers it an insult.
βI think itβs fair to say that there are many things he says that I do not take personally or seriously, although I think they can often be destructive and harmful,β he said.
