The Public Affairs Section of the US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria under the auspices of Education USA has organised a pre-departure sessions for over 110 academically exceptional Nigerian students.
‘Pre–departure orientation‘ sessions are group or individual events to prepare students who have been accepted into programs of study in the U.S.
The students recently awarded scholarships worth 5.3 million Dollars to study in over 15Universities in the US.
Education USA
Every year Education USA, EDUSA, runs a membership programme in Abuja and Lagos centres, where it prepares students who meet all the ‘pre-requisite academic requirements’ and who have the financial means to study in various disciplines in the US.
It provides ‘accurate, comprehensive and current guidance on accredited US colleges and universities to highly qualified students from both rich and poor families.’
The US embassy identified the academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds through the centre advisors of its opportunity programs.
Some of the schools that offered the scholarship program for the students include Stanford University, Dartmouth University, Duke University, Tufts University, Bowdoin College, University of Rochester and George Mason University. Others are; Arizona State University, Drexel University, Alcorn State University, Howard University, New York University, and Whitworth University, among others.
Statistics shows that over 400 universities in the US have offered admission to Nigerian students through the EDUSA scheme
