“This is ghetto parenting” — Solomon Buchi criticises mother who linked six-year-old’s actions to ADHD
Media personality and commentator Solomon Buchi has criticised the mother of a six-year-old boy who sh0t his teacher at a Virginia elementary school, after she linked his behaviour to ADHD.
The incident happened at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News in January 2023, when the boy used his mother’s handgun to sh00t first-grade teacher Abby Zwerner. Zwerner survived after suffering serious injuries.
In a resurfaced interview, the boy’s mother, Deja Taylor, said her son had ADHD and had previously complained that his teacher was ignoring him. She also said he had been suspended after accidentally knocking the teacher’s phone from her hand.
Reacting to the comments, Buchi questioned the connection between the child’s ADHD diagnosis and the decision to use a firearm against his teacher.
“What does ADHD have to do with a child sh00ting a gun, a real gun, at his teacher?” he asked.
“This is not a matter of a disability. This is ghetto parenting. This is a result of a failed parent. We’re talking about six, six years old. Why does the child have access to a firearm?”
Buchi also criticised the child’s reported language and behaviour, arguing that a disability should not be used to justify harmful actions.
The boy’s mother was later convicted in connection with the case after pleading guilty to felony child neglect. Investigators said the child obtained the handgun from her purse at home and took it to school.
